Alpha
What is Alpha?
Great question! Alpha is a series of sessions exploring the Christian faith, typically run over ten weeks. Each talk looks at a different question around faith and is designed to create conversation. Alpha is run all around the globe, and everyone is welcome. All sessions start with food, because it’s a great way to connect and get to know everyone there.
When is the next course at Bracknell Community Church?
Thank you so much for those who have signed up for our Alpha course—we’re really looking forward to welcoming you! If you are planning on coming along and haven’t signed up yet – please do!
The course will now begin on Monday 29th September at 7:30pm at Bullbrook Community Centre. We’d originally planned to run on Thursdays, but due to some difficulties in securing a venue, we’ve had to move to Monday evenings instead. We’re really sorry for any inconvenience this may cause, and we’re so grateful for your flexibility.
Each week we’ll share some food together (we’ve got limited kitchen facilities, so expect simple but tasty things like cheese toasties, dips, and hotdogs!), watch a short video, and then have plenty of time for relaxed conversation.
Here’s what a typical evening will look like:
- 7:30pm – 8:00pm| Food & welcome
- 8:00pm – 8:30pm| Short video
- 8:30pm – 9:15pm| Discussion in small groups
- 9:15pm – 9:30pm| Wrap-up & close
And here’s the outline of the topics we’ll be exploring together each week:
- Is There More to Life Than This?
- Who is Jesus?
- Why Did Jesus Die?
- How Can I Have Faith?
- Why and How Do I Pray?
- Why and How Should I Read the Bible?
- How Does God Guide Us?
- Who is the Holy Spirit?
- How Can I Make the Most of the Rest of My Life?
- What About the Church?
Alpha is a space for anyone and everyone to explore life, faith, and meaning. Whether you’re completely new to Christianity, revisiting faith after a while, or just curious, you’ll be very welcome.
We can’t wait to see you there!
If you have any questions before then, just reply to David.ritchie@bracknellcommunitychurch.org.uk or Abigail.howe@bracknellcommunitychurch.org.uk
What do you cover in a session?
The Alpha sessions are designed to engage and inspire conversation. The talks are about thirty minutes long and explore the big issues around faith and unpack the basics of Christianity, addressing questions such as Who is Jesus?, How can we have faith? and How does God guide us?
Probably the most important part of Alpha is the post-talk discussion: the chance to share thoughts and ideas on the topic, and simply discuss it in a small group. There’s no obligation to say anything and there’s nothing you can’t say (seriously). It’s an opportunity to hear from others and contribute your own perspective in an honest, friendly and open environment.
